The first earthquake I experienced was the San Simeon quake of 2003 (you probably barely felt that one down in L.A.). I hadn't moved to California yet, and was just visiting from Illinois. I was walking down the street in Solvang, when suddenly I felt like I couldn't walk, and I was about to fall over. Then I realized it wasn't me, but THE FREAKIN' GROUND that was swaying. It was weird.
