Thanks you so much Auntie for your talk today. There's plenty of time for giggles and fun but this is a time to be serious and I love you for bringing us togehter on that level.
I want all of us Lovies to get over to "It Gets Better" and listen to everything we can. Let's get the viewing numbers up so that the young ones can better find the postings there.
I ask this of Pat Robertson... "At what percentage of the population do we give a shit about a group? 2-3% is'nt enough. How about 5%? Or 15%?
African Americans = 12-15%
Disabled persons = ?
Veterans = ?
Native Americans = ?
It would seem to me that all of God's people should matter to the 700 Club - especially those who cannot protect themselves. I surmise that Pat will continue to raise his donations on the backs of anyone he can demonize.
First, I totally understand your point of view. However, what child did not experience some form of "bullying" in High School? And we need to stop people from speaking? Really, So the First Amendment only applies to gays now? They have right to speak out in their anti-gay speech just as we have the right to speak out in pro-gay speech. Do you hear what you are saying? This is how the current socialist movement gained a foothold in our Republic.
All gay kids just have to make it thru high school. The world is not a "Glee" special. And guess what, when they go to college, then start life, there are only a handful of cities where one is free to be openly gay. Even there it is only on the surface. So kido’s you better grow a pair. Life is not going to be easy if you're different. So educate yourself and know what you are up against. I have yet to meet ANYONE who had supportive parents when they came out. So before you pull out that pink feather boa and start dancing in a pride parade, understand there will be a cost. Most of us don’t live in Los Angeles, New York, or San Francisco.
The United States Constitution is a scared document. NEVER to be added to or struck. Once we learn this life will be so much easier. Speech no matter how vile to someone is protected. This is not even on the floor for debate. Just as “hate crimes” can not stand on there merits in legal argument. We have laws on the books for crimes against persons. Just because said crime happens to a person of dark ethnic group or gay does it make the crime worse? And just what would you do with these bullies? Their speech is protected. They did not take up arms and kill these kids. Let’s remember personal responsibility. Instead of fighting the good fight, these young men took the easy way out. It has a lot to do with our youth being raised as spoiled mtv brats.
While these deaths are tragic, let's not throw the baby out with the bath water. We are in a war for our rights. In any war, there will be causalities on the battlefield. Our goal here is marriage equality and having homosexual added to the 1965 Civil Rights act. I refuse to loose the war because a few kids decided to off themselves. Again, grow a pair, channel your outrage, direct your funds and fall the hell in line. This is why the worthless gay rights groups lead by HRC are useless as tit’s on a turtle in DC. As Dr. King said so often, “Keep Your Eye On The Prize”. Yes, we will remember those who died in battle but let’s not fall down on the battlefield to mourn them. We are so close to our goals. Within ten years, if we maintain our current push, our war is won!
And before ya’ll start hurling bullets let me ask you this; What has “Barry” done for you? Yes, your messiah, Sen. Jesus has come to earth to save us all. What’s that?………Oh, Yes……that’s right….NOTHING! He has not done one damn thing for the gay community. He could end DADT tomorrow with a signature on a stop loss order. Again, useless as tit’s on a turtle.
Queen without a country, I think you're missing a lot of the point. Plenty of children go through school without being bullied. Bullying is *wrong*. And when certain types of bullying are tacitly encouraged, when the school administrators turn a blind eye when some kids get bullied, but not others... that is also wrong.
And, by the way, you're dead wrong about the US Constitution being "sacred" and "never to be added to". Our founding fathers deliberately wrote it so that it COULD be added to. That was a bit of great wisdom on their part.
And you're also wrong about this being a free speech issue. Using webcams to spy on someone is an invasion of privacy. Beating someone up, shoving them into a locker, breaking their arms, that's abuse, battery, violence. And using speech in harmful ways... like shouting "fire" in a crowded theater or using it to harass minority groups... is NOT protected under the Constitution.
Please, learn some compassion. And as for personal responsibility, the bullies ARE personally responsible for their actions, and should be held so.
There's far too much "blaming the victim" in your diatribe, which is exactly what bullies like to hear, because it protects them, rather than those who actually need protection.
Vera,
Thank you for your podcast. I actually couldn't listen to it all the way through because I became too emotional when I began thinking of the pain these children went through before they took their lives. Perhaps it was remembering the pain I experienced at the hands of bullies myself. I hope and pray that through the pain and suffering these families are experiencing that our greater American family will take a moment to pause and reflect and see that the suffering that homophobia has caused (death, AIDS, murder, hate)goes beyond calling someone "fag". Perhaps the suffering of these dear children will flip the switch inside of them that turns on their humanity.
I love your podcast, you give hope to so many of your listeners no doubt some of which are gay youth.
I don't usually comment on my comments here, but I feel compelled. Thank you Anonymous for saying so beautifully what needed to be said in response. I appreciate your eloquence and intelligence.
Thank you,
Vera
Hi Auntie Vera thanks for the podcast on Friday, only just got to listen to it. Not much more I can add really I was crying on the bus on the way home - anger and sadness.
Oh and Queen without a country....
Being British we don't have a constitution but then we don't seem to have such hate filled religious nutters either.
"The United States Constitution is a scared document. NEVER to be added to or struck."
I'm no expert by why is it called the First AMENDMENT?
Vera, thanks for bringing this issue up on your podcast. As we can already see in the previous comments, there are a lot of opinions out there. The first step is beginning the discussion -- and that is what you did -- as painful as it might have been. I thank you for that.
